Britton to Open ITTF Pan American Cup Campaign on Wednesday

February 18, 2025

Top national table tennis player Shemar Britton is set to begin his campaign on Wednesday at the ITTF Pan American Cup, currently underway in San Francisco, USA.

Fellow Guyanese player and Olympian Chelsea Edghill will enter the competition on Friday.

The Pan American Cup, the ITTF Continental Cup for the Americas, commenced on Tuesday at the 888 Table Tennis Centre, featuring top talent from across the region.

Britton, who arrived in San Francisco on February 16, sees this event as a crucial opportunity to assess his current level of play, especially in preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Championship in June.

He has emphasized his mental readiness and strategic approach heading into the competition.

Edghill, who arrived in the USA on February 15, has been preparing intensively in Cuba in the weeks leading up to the tournament.

She views the event as a valuable opportunity to gauge her form at the start of the competitive season.

Both players will compete for ITTF ranking points and a share of the tournament’s $20,000 prize money, which is awarded to semifinalists in the Singles category.

Additionally, a strong performance could secure them a spot in the ITTF Singles World Cup in China later this year.
