Britton, Edghill, Moore, and Billingy Dominate KFC Summer Showdown Table Tennis Tournament

Olympian Chelsea Edghill, Shemar Britton, Malachi Moore, and Jasmine Billingy emerged as the inaugural winners of the KFC Summer Showdown Table Tennis tournament held over the weekend at the Guyana Olympic Association.

In the men’s open category, Shemar Britton showcased his dominance with a victory over Elishaba Johnson.

The match saw an initial exchange of victories between Britton and Johnson, with scores of 6-11 and 11-8 respectively.

Britton regained momentum in the third set, winning 11-3, and proceeded to secure the match with two additional set victories, 11-5 and 11-6, despite Johnson’s valiant efforts.

In the women’s open final, Trinidad and Tobago’s table tennis ace Imani Edwards faced Olympic-bound Chelsea Edghill.

Edghill claimed the first two sets with scores of 11-4 and 11-5.

Edwards made a strong comeback in the third set, leading 8-2, but Edghill fought back to win 11-8.

Edghill wrapped up the fourth set 11-6, earning her the title.

Malachi Moore continued to impress in the boys’ U15 and U19 events, winning both titles. In the U15 category, Moore defeated Travis Lyken in three straight sets.

Later, he overcame a tough challenge from Colin Wong, securing a four-sets-to-three victory in the U19 category.

In the girls’ U19 matchup, Jasmine Billingy triumphed over Thuraia Thomas in a hard-fought clash, winning with a 3-2 set victory.

The KFC Summer Showdown Table Tennis tournament highlighted the remarkable talent and competitive spirit of Guyana’s table tennis players, promising a bright future for the sport in the region.
