The new US$28 million dollar Brickdam Police Headquarters is expected to be completed very soon. Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond told NCN News that construction works on the building are steadily advancing. She provided details on the ongoing works as the project moves closer to completion.
“We’re 85 per cent completed. We are now going to install the fire suppression system and the electrical. And the project will be completed by December 2026, the end of this year,” she said.
The 12-story edifice will serve as Guyana’s modern police headquarters upon completion. The steel concrete and glass structure is being constructed on the site of the former Brickdam Police Station and will replace Eve Leary as the headquarters.
All services currently available at Eve Leary will be transferred here at the Brickdam Police Station.
The project is being executed by our R Bassoo and Sons Construction Company in partnership with Xinjiang Group Company Guyana Incorporated.
Designed with modern security and safety features, the facility will include earthquake-resistant infrastructure, fire safety and prevention mechanisms, a CCTV civilian system, and an upgraded telephone network to strengthen operations and security.
The headquarters will accommodate several key departments including Traffic, Finance, Impact Base and the Criminal Investigation Department.
