Bosai Minerals is set to commence transporting bauxite using major vessels through the Demerara River to international waters, following recent approval from the Ministry of Public Works.
Minister Juan Edghill announced the green light for these operations during a recent visit to Linden.
The new initiative will see Bosai utilizing two self-propelled barges as part of their Maz project, aimed at boosting the country’s bauxite production.
This operation will involve transferring bauxite to a stationed mother ship in the Atlantic, from where it will be dispatched into international waters.
Minister Edghill emphasized that the increase in vessel movement on the waterways will be significant.
Ensuring safety on these waterways is a top priority, with the government committed to maintaining rigorous safety standards to prevent accidents and collisions.
The Public Works Minister also noted that with the expansion of operations, there will be a focus on certifying both operators and their vessels to meet safety regulations.
This initiative is part of Bosai’s broader efforts to enhance bauxite production and meet growing demand.
