The Ministry of Labour’s Board of Industrial Training (BIT) has commenced its training programs for the year 2024, initiating the first batch of courses at the Guyana Industrial Training Centre on Woolford Avenue in Georgetown.
Over 40 individuals have enrolled in various courses, including heavy-duty equipment operation, electrical installation, welding and fabrication, and plumbing.
Several students shared their positive experiences and gratitude for the opportunity to receive free skills training.
One graduate, Ashleigh Grey, expressed satisfaction with the government’s commitment to providing skill development opportunities, eliminating the need to incur expenses for such training.
Another graduate, Jonathan Garnett, highlighted his excitement for the chance to pursue a course he had always wanted, especially given the free access to the program.
Tahir Meusa, another graduate, emphasized the additional benefits of acquiring skills beyond academic education.
Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton, assured participants of the necessary support throughout the training process, encouraging them to take full advantage of the opportunities for personal and professional development.
The BIT programs have expanded with innovative approaches and strategic training courses.
Minister Hamilton affirmed the government’s commitment to providing support and exposure to the necessary training to help individuals develop their skills.
The launch event was attended by Kwame McCoy, Director of Public Affairs, and Charles Ramson Jr., Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, both commending the initiative to educate citizens.
