The Victoria Ground on the East Coast Demerara is set to host a Wellness Fair and 5K run, organized by the US non-profit organization, Blueprint Foundation.
The event aims to provide essential medical services and information to underserved rural communities.
Founder of Blueprint Foundation Inc., Roxanne Hermanstyne, shared that her personal experience with a family member diagnosed with cancer in Guyana highlighted the challenges faced by individuals in rural areas to access proper healthcare.
This motivated her to establish the foundation and offer essential services to these communities.
The organization’s mission is to enhance the well-being of rural residents, recognizing the obstacles they face in accessing healthcare services due to factors such as geographic isolation and limited resources.
Blueprint Foundation hopes to expand its reach to areas with similar challenges in the future.
The main objectives of the wellness fair are twofold. Firstly, to promote the importance of physical activity in improving overall health, emphasizing that activities like walking, jogging, and running can positively impact chronic illnesses.
Secondly, to underscore the significance of regular health screenings, recommending them at least once a year or every six months.
The fair will offer a range of medical services, educational resources, and expert guidance, all tailored to address the specific healthcare needs of rural populations.
Additionally, Blueprint Foundation plans to organize similar health and wellness fairs in Kwakwani and Linden.
The event is conducted in partnership with Stride 592, demonstrating the collaborative efforts to enhance the well-being of communities in need.
