The Board of Industrial Training (BIT), under the Ministry of Labour, is set to broaden its programme offerings as part of a comprehensive upgrade.

In an interview with NCN’s Nakasia Logan, Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton revealed that BIT aims to launch new programmes with a focus on creativity and innovation, enhancing the skill sets needed for modern construction.

Hamilton shared that the ministry is currently discussing the introduction of a unique building construction programme.

This holistic programme will teach trainees how to install various building systems, such as electrical and plumbing, with modern techniques that differ from traditional construction methods.

BIT is also exploring the fusion of woodworking and welding in a pilot programme to be introduced at the Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC).

The initiative will combine these two trades to reflect the latest trends in furniture making, which now often merges steel and wood materials.

Since the PPP/C administration took office in 2020, almost 12,000 individuals have received training through BIT in a range of skilled areas.

This expansion underscores the government’s dedication to developing a skilled and innovative workforce through practical and community-focused training solutions.
