As the rainy season intensifies, residents of Betterhope/LBI are urged to take proactive measures against potential flooding, according to Chairman Zaman Shaw of the Betterhope/LBI NDC.

Shaw emphasized the importance of maintaining secondary drains and ensuring that front drains are at least 24 inches wide and deep.

He underscored the shared responsibility between the NDC and homeowners in preventing floods, highlighting ongoing efforts by a community enhancement team equipped with an excavator.

Chairman Shaw also expressed concerns about narrow drains and residents obstructing drainage systems, which exacerbate flood risks.

He noted collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture’s National Drainage and Irrigation Authority to clear major canals, part of a comprehensive plan to safeguard communities from heavy rainfall impacts.
