Better Hope-LBI NDC Chairman Highlights Community Development Progress

By Delicia Janneire

The Better Hope-LBI Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) continues to make strides in community development, according to Chairman Zaman Shaw.

Shaw provided an update on the progress made in various localities under the NDC’s jurisdiction, which includes Better Hope, Montrose, Felicity, Atlantic Gardens, Vryheid’s Lust, Happy Acres, Success, Chateau Margot, Pigeon Island, and La Bonne Intention (LBI).

Reflecting on his tenure since 2016, Shaw noted that significant improvements have been made, particularly in road development.

He highlighted that every community from Better Hope to LBI has benefited from road repairs and rehabilitation efforts.

Shaw acknowledged that the NDC faced challenges initially, including issues with resource allocation, but emphasized that the situation has improved significantly.

In addition to road development, the NDC has enhanced its solid waste management services.

Shaw reported the acquisition of new machinery, which has allowed for more efficient waste management.

The NDC now follows a scheduled garbage pickup system, including designated days for non-domestic waste collection.

Despite these advancements, Shaw emphasized that challenges persist, such as non-compliance with building codes and disregard for bylaws.

He called on the community to collaborate with the NDC to address these issues effectively.

NDCs are tasked with raising and collecting taxes, while central government provides annual subventions for specific developmental projects.

Shaw’s report underscores the ongoing efforts and progress in the Better Hope-LBI area, reflecting the NDC’s commitment to community service and development.
