Berbice Secures Victory Thanks to Permaul and Sinclair’s Stellar Performances

In an electrifying match during the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Inter-County 50 over Tournament, the Berbice team emerged victorious, clinching a three-wicket win against the GCB select XI side at the Enmore Community Center Ground.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the GCB select XI side put up a respectable score of 188 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Opener Raymond Perez set the pace with a commendable half-century, amassing 52 runs from 60 balls, including six boundaries.

Joshua Persaud and Christopher Barnwell also made notable contributions with 21 and 50 runs respectively.

A late partnership between Carlos La Rose and Barnwell added impetus to the innings after a mid-game lull.

However, Berbice’s Versammy Permaul proved to be a formidable force, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul for just 40 runs from his 10 overs.

Nail Smith, Kevin Sinclair, and Gudakesh Motie also chipped in with crucial wickets.

In pursuit of victory, Berbice got off to a flying start, courtesy of an explosive 81-run innings by Kevin Sinclair. Sinclair’s aggressive display included nine boundaries and three sixes.

Despite early dismissals of fellow openers Rampertab Ramnauth and Kevlon Anderson, a crucial 75-run partnership between Sinclair and Seon Glasgow put Berbice on course for victory.

Seon Hetmyer and Nigel Deodat further bolstered Berbice’s position, contributing 31 and 30 runs respectively. Permaul returned with the bat, remaining unbeaten at 10, guiding his team to victory with a total of 191 for 7.

For the GCB select XI side, Jonathan Rampersaud and Isai throne secured two wickets each, while Junior Sinclair, Christopher Barnwell, and Suresh Dhanai claimed one wicket apiece.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, Permaul was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match.

The match showcased exemplary cricketing talent and will surely be remembered as a thrilling encounter in the tournament.
