The Berbice Chinese Association hosted its annual Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday, marking the commencement of the Chinese Spring Festival with cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and festivities.
Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, attended the event and highlighted the significant contributions of the Chinese community to Guyana’s development, particularly in infrastructure and investment.
He acknowledged the role of Chinese companies in major projects such as roads, bridges, and airport expansions.
Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Guyana, Huang Rui, reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Guyana.
He referenced a 2023 meeting between the two countries’ heads of state, emphasizing China’s dedication to fulfilling its promises and fostering mutual development.
As part of the celebrations, several distinguished members from Region Six were honored by the Berbice Chinese Association for their contributions to the region.
