Georgetown, Guyana — The Beacon Foundation Hospice stands as a vital support system for cancer patients and their families, offering comprehensive palliative care that addresses not only physical needs but also emotional and practical challenges.

Established to bring relief and strength to those facing life-limiting illnesses, the hospice has reshaped palliative care in the region, helping patients navigate the difficult journey following a cancer diagnosis.

Palliative Care Nurse Bibi Salim, who has dedicated six years to this work, emphasized that the foundation’s mission is rooted in improving patients’ quality of life.

Beyond medical treatment, Beacon Foundation Hospice provides crucial emotional and practical support, which includes guidance on nutrition, treatment options, and counseling to help patients make informed decisions about their care.

Since acquiring its facility at Thomas and New Market Streets in 2017, Beacon Foundation Hospice has expanded its services to accommodate patients from remote regions who are undergoing intensive treatments, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The hospice offers free lodging for patients who must travel to Georgetown for care, addressing the significant burden of daily travel that many patients would otherwise face.

The foundation currently serves five regions across Guyana—Regions 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10—ensuring that patients from diverse communities have access to compassionate care.

Nurse Salim also encourages individuals to see cancer not as a death sentence but as a journey that, with commitment and adherence to medical guidance, can be managed effectively.

Through its dedicated team and services, the Beacon Foundation Hospice reaffirms its commitment to ensuring no one faces cancer alone, empowering patients to live with dignity and resilience.
