The Beacon Foundation Hospice has become a vital source of hope and support for cancer patients and their families during the challenging journey of diagnosis and treatment.

Since its inception, the organization has transformed the landscape of palliative care, focusing on providing compassionate assistance to those facing life-limiting illnesses.

At the core of the Beacon Foundation’s mission is the understanding that palliative care extends beyond just medical treatment; it aims to enhance the overall quality of life for both patients and their families.

Palliative Care Nurse Bibi Salim, who has dedicated six years to the profession, emphasizes that the hospice offers not only medical care but also emotional and practical support for patients undergoing treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The Beacon Foundation Hospice, located at Thomas and New Market Streets, has expanded its services since acquiring its dedicated facility in 2017.

This includes providing comfortable accommodations for patients traveling from remote areas, making it easier for them to access necessary treatments.

Salim explains that the hostel service is particularly beneficial for patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy who have nowhere to stay while receiving treatment.

Given the demanding schedule of treatments, which often require daily visits, having a free place to stay significantly eases the burden for these patients.

Nurse Salim also aims to dispel the misconception that a cancer diagnosis equates to a death sentence.

She encourages patients to remain hopeful and engaged in their treatment plans, stating that following medical advice and keeping appointments can lead to better outcomes.

Serving regions 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10, the Beacon Foundation Hospice is committed to empowering patients to live fulfilling lives despite their challenges.

Through its compassionate approach to palliative care, the foundation reassures that no one has to face cancer alone, reaffirming its dedication to being a source of strength and hope in the community.
