Beverage giant Banks DIH Limited has inaugurated its new subsidiary, Banks Automotive and Services Incorporated (BASI), with President Dr. Irfaan Ali in attendance.
The launch marks a significant step in the company’s diversification efforts.
The newly opened six-story automotive and services dealership, spanning 2008 square meters, is a landmark achievement, being the first of its kind in the region designed and built by local engineers, including Kares Engineering Incorporated.
During the event, President Ali highlighted the connection between the new Zero-Tax policy on electric vehicles and the ongoing efforts to boost EV adoption in Guyana.
He spoke about the government’s plans to establish a network of central charging stations to support the growing use of electric vehicles.
Ali also underscored the role of the private sector in engaging with electric vehicle manufacturers to expand the market.
Shabir Hussein, Engineering Services Director at Banks, discussed the benefits of the new dealership, emphasizing its positive impact on the Guyanese market.
He noted that unlike used vehicles, new cars offer a longer lifespan and reduced stress, ultimately benefiting the economy by reducing expenditure on spare parts.
In addition to electric vehicles, BASI has signed a non-exclusive distribution agreement with Daikin Applied Latin America, LLC, to supply residential and commercial air conditioning systems.
The company will also deal in UniCarriers Forklift trucks, SWM Vehicles, Shineray Vans/Buses, Keeway Motorcycles, and Sporttrak Tyres.
