The West Indies women’s cricket team suffered a crushing 60-run defeat to Bangladesh in the second One Day International (ODI) match on Tuesday, with the series now tied at 1-1, ahead of the final game.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Bangladesh’s women’s team fought hard on a challenging pitch, with captain Nigar Sultana leading the way by scoring 68 runs from 120 balls, which included 5 fours.
She was supported by Sobhana Mostary and Shorna Akter, who both contributed valuable twenties, helping Bangladesh reach 184 runs from 48.5 overs.
The West Indies women’s bowlers fought hard, with Aaliyah Alleyne finishing with the best figures of 3 wickets for 24 runs.
Karishma Ramharack impressed with 4 wickets for 33 runs from 10 overs.
Deandra Dottin, Cherry-Ann Fraser, and Afy Fletcher also took one wicket apiece.
In reply, the West Indies women’s batting line-up struggled.
Hayley Matthews made a solid start but was dismissed for 16 runs.
Shemaine Campbelle top-scored with 28 runs off 43 balls, but the West Indies team found it difficult to clear the boundary.
After Campbelle’s departure, Aaliyah Alleyne and Cherry-Ann Fraser contributed 15 and 18 runs, respectively, but it wasn’t enough.
The West Indies were bowled out for just 124 runs in 35 overs, falling short by 60 runs in their chase.
Bangladesh’s bowlers were clinical, with Rabeya Khan, Fahima Khatun, and Marufa Akter each taking three wickets.
Nahida Akter also impressed, picking up 3 wickets for 31 runs.
With the series now tied, both teams will look to secure victory in the third and final ODI to determine the winner.
