The construction of the Bamia/Amelia’s Ward Primary School, overseen by the Ministry of Local Government, has experienced notable setbacks attributed to labor and material shortages.
As a consequence, the project, located in Linden, has fallen several months behind the initial schedule.
To address this, efforts have been redoubled at the construction site, aiming to meet the revised completion target set for November. According to Regional Executive Officer Dwight John, the project has reached 68 percent completion, with over 50 individuals actively engaged in the construction process.
Simultaneously, landscaping work is underway in tandem with the primary construction activities. Various factors, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, contributed to the delay, as outlined by John.
The necessary materials are already present on-site, and a robust workforce of nearly 50 individuals is diligently working towards achieving the revised completion date.
The contract for the construction of this $364 million school was awarded to St8ment Investment Inc. on November 8, 2021. Originally slated for completion in July 2023, the primary school, situated in Guyana’s largest housing scheme, is anticipated to accommodate around 800 students by 2024.
