As Guyana continues its rapid rise as a major offshore oil producer, President Dr. Irfaan Ali told the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston that the world must pursue a balanced energy strategy to meet the growing demands.

Speaking to hundreds of industry leaders, innovators and investors, the Guyanese head of state urged decision-makers to confront a key question, whether sufficient affordable energy is being produced to meet global needs.

“The world is pursuing an energy transition in a context where demand is rising, supply is under pressure and existing energy systems remain indispensable. This is a reality that must inform policy, investment and strategy,” he said.

Citing risks in the Strait of Hormuz, he warned energy security remains fragile. Dr. Ali stressed that the sustainable path requires balance, expanding both fossil fuels and renewables, increasing investment, advancing technology and managing resources limits.

“All of what I’m saying is not to pit one against the other, but for us to understand that the time has come for us to sit together and find a balanced approach to the energy needs of the world and not to be fighting as to which is better than the other. We must find this balanced approach,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, President Ali was bestowed with the Visionary Leadership Award from the bilateral chambers in Houston, Texas, in recognition of his steadfast leadership and transformative vision for Guyanese economic development.

The president received accolades for advancing responsible energy growth, strengthening regional partnerships and fostering sustainable national progress.

The bilateral chamber has served as a trusted platform connecting global leaders across energy, infrastructure, education, finance, health care and technology to foster strategic partnerships and meaningful economic collaboration.
