Healthcare workers who responded to the Mahdia Secondary School dormitory fire over a year ago were honored at a recent award ceremony held at the Police Officer Mess, Eve Leary.
During the ceremony, Dr. Ravindra Dudhnauth, Deputy Director of Regional Health Services, vividly recalled the night of the fire, emphasizing the chaos it caused and the subsequent efforts to provide reassurance and care.
Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, also praised the healthcare teams involved in the response.
He acknowledged their roles in DNA testing of remains, coordinating with a pathologist from Barbados, arranging medical care abroad for Mariza Williams, and the relentless dedication of local teams.
Tokens of appreciation were presented to the medical personnel in recognition of their hard work and commitment to their profession.
Additionally, families affected by the Mahdia dormitory fire received $5 million each to support their comfort and recovery.
