August Celebrates National Breastfeeding Month

August is recognized as National Breastfeeding Month, highlighting the critical importance of breastfeeding for both mother and infant health.

Breastfeeding provides essential nutrients and antibodies to newborns while aiding in faster postpartum recovery for mothers.

Midwife Schyroll Williams from the Linden Hospital Complex discussed common challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers, including sore nipples and the need for patience.

She emphasized the importance of support networks, including family encouragement and workplace policies that accommodate breastfeeding needs.

Jennifer Melville, Regional Breastfeeding Monitor, noted that exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for at least six months.

The Linden Hospital Complex hosted a series of activities for National Breastfeeding Month, including radio and television programs, health talks, and a competition for the best breastfeeding corner.
