Audit Report Unveiled for 2022

The Audit Office of Guyana formally presented the Audit Report on the Public Accounts of Guyana for the fiscal year 2022 at the Parliament Buildings in Georgetown.

The report was handed over to Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, signifying its imminent public release.

Auditor General Deodat Sharma, speaking at the ceremony, affirmed that his office has once again met its obligation of timely reporting to the legislature and the public. He noted, “It gives me great pleasure to present my 19th report as Auditor General. The presentation of this report marks the 12th consecutive occasion, except for 2019 when the report was presented in December 2020 due to COVID, that the audit office has submitted its reports by the statutory deadline of 30th September, following the close of the financial year.”

They also presented performance auditor reports on crucial matters such as the Ministry of Education’s Hinterland School Feeding Programme, Implementation of the International Health Regulations, and a Review of the Ministry of Labour Occupational Safety and Health Inspection Process.

The Auditor General emphasized that over 100 of their staff members have participated in international training and workshops covering various sectors, including the oil and gas field.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, expressed his satisfaction in receiving the report and underscored its importance in upholding accountability and transparency in managing the country’s resources. He stated, “The Auditor General’s office and the AG himself are now well-oiled machines in looking after the financing of the state and to ensure that what it meant for it delivers on and the government delivers on.”

These reports are slated to be presented in the National Assembly when it reconvenes in October, and they will subsequently be accessible to the public. The Auditor General also extended gratitude to all those involved in gathering the necessary information and preparing the report.
