Aubrey Hutson Returns to AAG Leadership, Focused on Transition and Future

Aubrey Hutson has resumed his leadership role at the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) after a hiatus of over a year.

Returning to the position he first assumed in 2013, Hutson is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for his successor while evaluating his own future within the organization.

Hutson’s suspension in April of the previous year stemmed from issues related to the 2023 CARFITA team’s travel and accommodation arrangements.

Despite his suspension, Hutson chose to step away from the sport temporarily, believing that the association’s actions against him were unjust.

He has since returned to his duties, aiming to address any outstanding matters and prepare the association for future leadership.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the suspension but opted not to pursue legal action to avoid further complications for the sport.

Hutson noted some initial resistance upon his return, but he emphasized that the overall focus should remain on the betterment of athletics in Guyana.

Hutson commended Vice President Amanda Hermonstyne for her efforts while he was away, acknowledging her role in maintaining the association’s operations.

Looking ahead, he is still undecided about whether he will seek re-election, with the next AAG annual general meeting and election expected to occur between December 2024 and January 2025.

In his renewed capacity, Hutson is committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure the continued development and success of athletics in Guyana.
