Attorney General Anil Nandlall Addresses Legal Matter Involving Rickford Burke

Hon. Anil Nandlall Attorney General/Minister of Legal Affairs (Left) and US-based political activist Rickford Burke (Right)

Attorney General Anil Nandlall has clarified the legal situation concerning US-based political activist Rickford Burke, countering allegations of government interference and emphasizing that the charges are related to criminal offenses.

Burke, a vocal critic of the ruling PPP administration, recently received a defendant summons at his New York residence.

Opposition figures have accused the government of attempting to stifle Burke’s dissent, but Nandlall rejects these claims.

He asserts that Burke is wanted by the Guyana Police Force for charges including extortion, sedition, and incitement of public terror, following implications by reporters Gary Eleazar and Alex Wayne in September 2022.

Nandlall refutes the notion that the summons was improperly served on Burke in New York and dismisses arguments suggesting that serving the summons outside of Guyana is prohibited by law.

The legal matter surrounding Burke continues to unfold, raising questions about the intersection of political activism and legal charges.
