Attorney General Anil Nandlall has disclosed that squatters in Sarah Johanna were given prior notice to relocate before the demolition of their homes.

He clarified that the government’s involvement is limited to assisting the affected families, and the issue was ongoing before the current administration took office in 2020.

Nandlall noted that visits were conducted by the Attorney General and Housing Ministers to inform the squatters about the legal ramifications and offer the option to apply for house lots.

He emphasized that while some residents might have been unaware of the need to relocate, the matter was previously established and not solely attributable to the current government.

The Attorney General underlined that the government cannot be held responsible for the situation but remains dedicated to supporting those affected.

In the interim, temporary shelter is being offered to those in need, while others have sought refuge with family and friends.
