Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, has refuted allegations of discrimination in the awarding of contracts for government projects.
Speaking during his weekly program, ‘Issues in the News,’ Nandlall addressed assertions that contracts were predominantly being granted to businesses affiliated with one ethnic group.
He emphasized that the government is committed to the holistic development of the country and does not favor any specific ethnic group when awarding contracts. Nandlall stated, “Every single community is touched, so where is the discrimination.”
Responding to concerns about the allocation of road contracts to communities associated with the PPP party or a particular ethnic group, Nandlall emphasized that the contracts for over 300 roads on the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara are part of the government’s pledge to enhance infrastructure nationwide.
He urged patience from the public, highlighting that equitable development will reach every community, even though it may be staged due to logistical constraints.
As part of the broader transformation of communities across the country, Nandlall also announced plans for the renovation of several community grounds.
The Attorney General’s remarks come in response to concerns about the distribution of government contracts and reaffirm the commitment to inclusive development in Guyana.
