The Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School has officially opened its doors, offering modern training for students interested in careers in aviation.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag emphasised that the school will help train more locals to fill essential roles in Guyana’s growing aviation sector.

It provides more modern, convenient and first class facilities in which aviation engineers and other professionals can acquire the knowledge and technical skills required for a demanding and highly specialised industry,” she said.

The training is also expected to benefit students who may not traditionally pursue academic pathways but are interested in technical careers.

According to the minister, technical and vocational education is a key part of preparing the country’s workforce for growing industries like aviation

Technical and vocational skills is very important. Why? Because not everyone is an academic. Not everything requires you to be an academic,” she explained.

Officials say the expansion of aviation training will not only benefit students, but will also strengthen Guyana’s aviation system as the country continues to grow.
