In their inaugural appearance at the Caribbean Development Championship held at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago from September 29 to October 1, Guyana’s 18-member archery team showcased outstanding talent and secured a total of seven medals.
Jeewanram Persaud, competing in the recurve beginner senior men category, clinched Guyana’s first gold medal. He outperformed Curacao’s Jair Davelaar, who secured second place, and Barbados’s Shane Riley, who came in third, after 72 arrows. Persaud amassed an impressive 608 points, with his compatriot Naresh Sukhu finishing in 7th place.
Roshini Boodhoo excelled in the recurve beginner senior women category, securing another gold for Guyana. She surpassed Richol Richards of St Vincent and her fellow countrywoman Julie Ann Williams, who secured third place. Theresa Deoroop, Bibi Salim, and Karin Topping also competed in this category, finishing in 9th, 10th, and 11th positions respectively.
Saeed Karim earned a silver medal in the recurve beginner under 21 men category, while Guyana’s Umsankar Madray narrowly missed the podium in the recurve developmental senior men category.
In the senior developmental women’s category, Samara Duncan secured a bronze medal with a score of 248 points. Meanwhile, in the recurve exceptional beginner’s women category, Victoria Kum clinched gold after a spirited performance.
Natalyia Pollard demonstrated exceptional skill in the Barebow beginner under 18 women category, earning another gold for Guyana.
The overall performance of the Guyanese team was exceptional, culminating in four gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals.
