Sixteen-year-old Shamar Apple has made history as the first player from the Transport and Harbour Sports Club to earn selection to the Guyana Harpy Eagles senior team at Number 4.

Apple, who was raised by his aunt, learned of his selection while training at Space Gym.

“I got some really good calls and even one from Coach Hercules himself saying congratulations, it’s something I worked hard for and always wanted to achieve,” Apple pointed out.

Transport has long been producing youth players at the Under-13, 15, 17, and 19 levels; however, Apple’s inclusion in the Harpy Eagles team represents the first senior breakthrough for the Thomas Land club.

Transport’s Head Coach Shaun Massiah, who has mentored Apple since he arrived at the transport club, said the achievement filled the entire team with pride.

“Let me first say I was overjoyed,”  an emotional Massiah expressed during the interview. “Having seen where he came from and the work we put in, it’s something we’re all proud of here and the club. I knew it would come one day, and I’m happy it has happened now,” Massiah added.

The Cricket West Indies director recalled that Apple’s wicketkeeping journey began by chance during a practice match, which the club hosts regularly when they don’t have competitive games on the weekends.

Known for his powerful framework and disciplined fitness habits, Apple would be seen running up to a dozen at Training.

Looking ahead to his Super50 Cup debut, Apple said he hopes to make an impact for Guyana.

“I just want to go out there, execute what I have to do, and hopefully score a hundred in one of the games,” he said eagerly.
