The Association of People of African Descent (APAD) is taking steps to boost Guyanese participation in Emancipation celebrations with its first-ever event at the Sophia Exhibition Center.
The celebration, aimed at fostering sustainable growth and development of African heritage and culture, was well received by participants.
Dr. Ruackal Easton, CEO of APAD, highlighted the need for a stronger connection to African culture, emphasizing that the event was a platform to showcase it not only locally but to the world.
He hopes this initiative will inspire more active engagement in future Emancipation activities.
Exhibitors at the event expressed their excitement about participating.
Mawazo Porte of Guyana Market Incorporated mentioned the unique variety of traditional African foods on offer, such as coconut biscuits, which were met with enthusiasm by attendees.
Fay Greaves of Jofa Products reflected on how the celebration allowed her to reconnect with the cultural experiences of her childhood.
The evening’s entertainment will include performances by popular artistes such as Warrior King and First Born, alongside other cultural showcases.
