The Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National School Festival kicked off recently with organizers expressing gratitude for the support of their sponsors in making the event possible.
Since its establishment in 2006, the tournament has grown significantly, with increasing interest from schools wanting to participate.
However, challenges in maintaining consistent school participation throughout the year have affected this year’s festival.
Chris Bowman, Co-Director of YBG, highlighted the tournament’s critical role in nurturing young talent and developing their careers in basketball.
He acknowledged the difficulties faced by organizers in ensuring the smooth conduct of this year’s tournament but thanked all involved for their commitment to the sport’s growth.
Malisa Jeffers, representing Edward B. Beharry Co. & LTD, affirmed their ongoing support for sports development and the young athletes involved in the tournament.
A total of 40 schools will compete in the tournament, vying for the prestigious title.
