The Guyana Ex-Athletes and Friends Inc. in partnership with the Athletics Association of Guyana is gearing up to host its eighth annual one-mile, 5K, and 10K road races on Independence Day.

Over 200 participants have already registered for the event, which will take place at the Eve-Leary Ground in three categories.

Burgette Williams-Forde, speaking at the launch event, emphasized the importance of youth participation and encouraged everyone to join in the festivities, assuring that there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Williams-Forde outlined the prize structure, highlighting that while the focus is on the youth with prizes like tablets, bicycles, and backpacks, lucrative rewards await participants of all ages.

The top male and female finishers will each receive a 43-inch smart television and $60,000, with generous cash prizes for the subsequent runners-up.

James Coles, the General Secretary of the Athletics Association of Guyana, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and emphasized the importance of such events in advancing athletes’ skills in road racing.

He mentioned that the federation has added more prizes to ensure that all participants receive recognition for their efforts.

The event is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM at the Eve-Leary Police ground.

Interested individuals can register online through the Athletic Association of Guyana’s Facebook page or in person at the Eve-Leary ground before Sunday at 2:30 PM.
