Efforts to enhance the delivery of public services in Guyana have received a boost with the return of the Annual Personnel Practitioners’ Workshop, organized by the Ministry of Public Service.
After a hiatus of about seven years, the two-day training seminar was held under the theme: “Strengthening the Public Service Through Human Resources Management.”
Prime Minister Mark Phillips addressed the staff during the opening session, emphasizing the importance of rules and regulations to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of goods and services.
He urged participants to focus on how to communicate these rules and regulations throughout the public service, acknowledging the crucial role of every individual, from drivers to handymen.
The Prime Minister highlighted that effective human resource management encompasses efficient planning, recruitment, training, employee engagement, diversity, and inclusion, among other factors.
Public Service Minister Sonia Parag emphasized the critical nature of the workshop, which was discontinued in 2016.
She stressed the importance of such training sessions at least once a year to ensure that public servants are well-equipped to provide the expected level of service.
The workshop saw the participation of Permanent Secretaries from various government ministries, their deputies, regional executive officers, and other human resource and personnel staff.
The overarching goal of the workshop remains rooted in revamping the mechanisms by which the public service operates.
The workshop’s revival signifies a renewed commitment to continuous improvement in the public service sector, aligning with the government’s goal of delivering efficient and effective services to the citizens of Guyana.
