Annual Heritage Exhibition Opens at Castellani House

Heritage exhibition opens at Castellani House

The National Gallery of Art has inaugurated its yearly heritage exhibition with the theme “An Exhibition of Cultural Identity and Representation.”

This event is one among many being held to commemorate Amerindian Heritage month.

This year’s heritage exhibition places emphasis on colors, culture, tradition, and identity. It celebrates the diverse range of native artists who, through paintings, sculptures, and various artistic expressions, have redefined their cultural identities. The works featured were created by members of the longstanding group ‘Moving Circle of Artists’, including individuals such as Oswald Hussein, Nigel Butler, and Sheliza Rampersuad, among twelve others.

The Acting Curator for the Gallery, Ohene Koama, mentioned that this year’s exhibition elevated traditional artistry by incorporating modern styles and attributes. Even with this modern twist, the exhibition still pays homage to the ancient culture of Guyana’s peoples. Koama emphasized the importance of preserving and diversifying these traditions.

The annual heritage exhibition will be open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, until September 30. The public is encouraged to visit and experience the extraordinary artistry that Guyana has to offer.
