Amerindian Heritage Month has commenced with vibrant celebrations, emphasizing the rich cultural identity of Guyana’s First People.

The opening event, the Amerindian Heritage Extravaganza, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting and uplifting Indigenous communities.

Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, addressed the importance of this month-long observance, noting that it underscores the nation’s dedication to preserving and honoring Amerindian cultures.

She affirmed that the government’s approach is inclusive, ensuring that no group is left behind in the nation’s development.

This year’s celebrations are themed “Many Voices, One Song, Celebrating Amerindian Heritage 2024,” and will feature a range of activities.

Highlights include an Art Exhibition, Heritage Village Day in Campbelltown, Region 8, and the National Heritage Pageant, scheduled to take place at the National Cultural Centre on September 30.

These events aim to showcase the diverse achievements and cultural practices of Amerindians, reflecting the nation’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating its Indigenous heritage.
