In recognition of Amerindian Heritage Month 2024, the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs organized a fitness walk on Sunday, attracting a large turnout of Amerindians and other Guyanese.

The event began at the Umana Yana, proceeded along Carifesta Avenue and Vlissingen Road, and concluded at the National Park.

The walk was led by Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai, with notable participation from Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony and PPP/C Member of Parliament Alister Charlie.

The impressive turnout demonstrated strong community support for the month’s activities.

Alister Charlie commended the public’s engagement, highlighting the substantial crowd at the heritage village and noting the widespread participation in the month’s events.

Minister Sukhai emphasized that the fitness walk aimed to promote overall health and well-being in the country.

She also expressed her anticipation for upcoming Heritage Month events, which include art exhibitions, heritage sports, educational lectures, and an Amerindian beauty pageant.

This year’s Amerindian Heritage Month theme is “Many Voices, One Song: Celebrating Amerindian Heritage 2024.”
