The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs today launched its annual leadership training program for Amerindian villages at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre under the theme “Empowering Village Councils for Improved Governance.”
This year’s program targets newly elected Toshaos, treasurers, and village secretaries, focusing on fostering transparency, accountability, and good governance at the village level.
Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, highlighted the importance of the training, emphasizing its role in updating and upgrading village leaders’ knowledge to enhance their administrative and governance capacities.
Senior Minister within the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, also addressed the participants, encouraging them to demonstrate leadership skills that can contribute to sustainable and prosperous village economies.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing opportunities for Amerindian leaders to grow and excel.
Over the two-day program, participants will engage in capacity-building sessions on project management, financial accountability, education, and the Amerindian Act.
These sessions aim to equip village leaders with the tools needed to drive positive change in their communities.
The initiative is set to expand nationwide, ensuring that other Amerindian leaders across the country benefit from similar training opportunities.
This annual program underscores the government’s dedication to empowering Amerindian communities and supporting their development through strengthened governance and leadership.
