Two new agro-processing facilities have been inaugurated in Region One, aimed at increasing the value-added production of crops like plantains and ground provisions.
These state-of-the-art facilities, located in Kumaka and White Water, are fully equipped with modern machinery that will enhance productivity, reduce processing times, and elevate the value of the region’s agricultural output.
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, speaking at the commissioning, emphasized the government’s goal of transforming Region One into the Spice Capital of Guyana.
He encouraged farmers to increase cultivation, noting that the soon-to-be-launched ferry service will provide crucial transportation support for getting goods to market.
Minister Mustapha also urged agro-processors and farmer groups to maximize the use of the new facilities, ensuring they remain productive and well-maintained.
With over 2,500 farmers, agro-processors, wholesalers, and retailers now having access to certified facilities in Region One, the new agro-processing centers are expected to boost local agriculture and provide more opportunities for economic growth in the region.
