Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha emphasized the importance of modernizing farming techniques and sharing best practices to achieve food security.
He spoke during the opening of an agriculture symposium held under the theme “Exploring Opportunities in Agriculture Through Innovation and Collaboration”.
Minister Mustapha highlighted that achieving a 25 percent reduction in the regional food import bill by 2025 requires innovative approaches from farmers.
While the government is initiating projects to bolster food security, he stressed that collaboration between farmers, agro-processors, the private sector, and other stakeholders is essential.
Chairman of the GCCI’s Agricultural Committee, Brian Edwards, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need for collaboration to develop a resilient market system.
He emphasized that such a system should not only ensure food security but also enhance productivity, ultimately benefiting hardworking farmers.
The symposium served as a platform for participants and presenters to engage in discussions on modernizing agricultural productivity.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, GBTI, NAREI, the Small Business Bureau, and other agricultural agencies.
