As Agriculture Month 2024 commences, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha underscored the importance of innovation and technology in building a sustainable and secure food system for future generations.

Speaking at the launch event, he urged citizens to reflect on the sector’s past achievements, current progress, and the vision for the future.

Minister Mustapha highlighted the role of technology in advancing agriculture, citing drone technology in rice production as a successful example.

The incorporation of drones has enabled the rice industry to surpass its mid-year production target, with expectations for further growth by year’s end.

Such advances, he noted, are essential in addressing climate change challenges and achieving food security and self-sufficiency.

This year’s Agriculture Month is themed “Transforming Tomorrow: Championing Food Security through Innovation and Technology,” emphasizing a collective responsibility.

Minister Mustapha stressed that each citizen’s contribution is crucial to the success of the national food system.

The Ministry of Agriculture kicked off the month’s activities with an interfaith service and will continue with a series of events designed to engage communities and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
