The prolonged drought-like conditions, which have persisted since July, are raising concerns, particularly for those in the agricultural sector. However, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha assures that farmers are not facing severe impacts thanks to effective water management systems.
Minister Mustapha emphasized that the water conservancies, along with canal clearing efforts, have maintained sufficient water levels for continued production. The Ministry remains actively engaged with farmers, providing guidance on optimal farming practices during this period.
The Hydromet Office forecasts that these conditions will persist until the first quarter of 2024. Chief Hydromet Officer, Dr. Garvin Cummings, states that it is currently uncertain whether this will impact the upcoming November to January wet season.
