As part of Agriculture Month celebrations, Region Ten’s Agriculture Department held its fifth Open Day and Agro Processors Expo on Friday at the Christianburg Office Compound.

The event aimed to highlight the talents of agro-processors and showcase the department’s advancements.

Regional Agricultural Officer, Deryck Collins, emphasized the importance of recognizing local agro-processors, stating, “Linden is very talented.”

He also highlighted the department’s progress, including the acquisition of a mini lab, which eliminates the need to send samples to Georgetown, and the establishment of a model farm.

Among the exhibitors was Shane Barnes, CEO and Founder of Prime Up, whose products include natural herbal teas and detox options.

Barnes shared that his products are available at James and Sons Supermarket in Linden, the Guyana Shop in Georgetown, and on social media at Prime Up.

Carolyn David Webster, Manager of Chanzar’s Enterprises, showcased innovative local products such as plantain, eddo, and barley flour.

Webster credited the people of Linden for inspiring their work.

Biologist Niketa Sobers, representing the Guyana Food Safety Authority, underlined the importance of food safety practices to prevent foodborne diseases.

Sobers encouraged businesses and handlers to adhere to food safety protocols, emphasizing that food safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The expo celebrated local talent and highlighted the critical role of agriculture and agro-processing in regional development.
