Advancements in Services for Persons Living With Disabilities Unveiled by Minister Persaud

The New Year promises positive developments for Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs), as revealed by the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, as she provided an update on the ministry’s initiatives for PWDs in 2024.

Improving accessibility to public assistance takes center stage on the ministry’s agenda for the coming year.

Minister Persaud outlined plans to implement more convenient methods for PWDs to cash public assistance vouchers, including exploring options with Money Gram, Western Union, and banking institutions.

The minister highlighted the training opportunities provided to persons with disabilities throughout the year, with a particular emphasis on mobility assistance.

A total of 444 individuals benefited from the ministry’s free assisted aids program, and the learning lab continued to offer impactful services.

Dr. Persaud also discussed progress in the learning lab and the regularization of the database system for children with disabilities.

The streamlined database, initiated in 2022, processed over 8000 applicants, resulting in over 5000 registrations after thorough screening.

The minister anticipates further growth in the database in the new year.
