Tourism Awareness Month 2026 was officially launched at the weekend under the theme: “Tourism is Everybody’s Business.”
Speaking at the launch Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, Kamrul Baksh, said the month should be a period of heightened awareness around what that theme truly means.

Baksh said this month’s activities will be built around the creation of a tourism mascot along with a heavy digital campaign that invites the public to create videos on the theme.
“At its core, that concept speaks about the role that everyone has to play in shaping the tourism identity for Guyana. So, I think the slogan is quite apt this year, and I think it’s one that will continue to create an impact beyond this month,” he said.
He also noted that the private sector is offering discounted packages throughout November to boost domestic travel, which is at its highest level this year.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, said this year’s launch turns the focus on city tourism, to celebrate the transformation of Georgetown.

She said while oil and gas are driving the economy now, tourism will remain the pillar of the nation.
“Sectors like tourism will be the enduring soul, the renewable lifeblood and a sustainable anchor of the Guyanese economy long after the wells run dry,” the minister said.
Minister Rodrigues reported a 10 percent increase in visitors to 360,623 by September, with accommodation expected to exceed 5,600 by year-end.
Guyana is expected to welcome more than 500,000 visitors by the end of this year.
