-Gov’t pushes to accelerate works

Work on the Palmyra to Moleson Creek road expansion project is currently about 27 percent complete, with Lot Two showing the most significant progress.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Mandanlall Ramraj, made the disclosure on Tuesday while inspecting ongoing works along the project corridor.
Minister Ramraj said while the overall progress is slightly behind schedule, with the project expected to be about 29 percent complete at this stage, efforts are underway to address the factors slowing construction on Lots One and Three.
The minister said he met with the contractors as well as representatives from the Guyana Water Incorporated, Guyana Power and Light and One Communications to identify and address impediments affecting the pace of construction.
“Those corrective measures would be but in place so that we could continue to accelerate the work. But I’m pretty happy with the progress of lot two. We saw the paving of some areas today and I think the supervision, the contractor and the Ministry of Public Works weare all working together to ensure that they have a timely completion of that project,” he said.
According to the minister, the decreased progress on Lots One and Three is partly linked to outstanding financial arrangements.

He said while some work has been undertaken, the financial aspects of the lots have not yet been fully concluded.
The Palmyra to Moleson Creek road expansion forms part of ongoing efforts to improve connectivity and transportation infrastructure in Region Six.
The overall project is expected to be completed in 2028.
