Mohamed Aqtar Ali has, through his attorney, demanded the withdrawal of statements allegedly made about him by Opposition Leader and businessman Azruddin Mohamed in a video posted online, warning that legal action could follow if the statements are not retracted.
In a letter dated today, Attorney-at-Law Kashir A. Khan said he was acting on behalf of Ali in relation to a video reportedly uploaded to the Team Mohamed Facebook account earlier in the day. The attorney alleges that several statements made in the video were intended to impugn his client’s character and integrity.
According to the letter, the video made several allegations concerning Ali, including claims about his alleged connection to Sigma Engineers Limited, his relationship with individuals associated with the company, his alleged presence at State House and access to land.
Ali, through his attorney, has rejected the allegations as untrue and unsupported by evidence. The letter states that Ali is neither a director nor shareholder in any of the companies referenced in the video and has never held either position.
The attorney also contends that the publication has damaged his client’s reputation, noting that the video had reportedly attracted more than 384,000 views and over 1,600 comments at the time the letter was prepared.
Khan has called for the allegations to be withdrawn “forthwith”, warning that failure to do so could result in Ali pursuing legal action to protect his reputation.
The letter further warns against any repetition or republication of the disputed statements.
