The Ministry of Housing and Water on Monday met with representatives from Google’s Public Sector and Google for Education divisions to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based technologies to enhance government services and support the Ministry’s digital transformation agenda.
The engagement formed part of Google’s visit to Guyana. The company is meeting with several Government ministries and agencies to identify opportunities for collaboration in digital transformation, digital infrastructure, and the responsible adoption of AI.
Leading the discussions were Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal; Minister within the Ministry, Hon. Vanessa Benn; Permanent Secretary Bishram Kuppen; Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr. Martin Pertab; and ICT Manager Keith Fileen.
Discussions focused on how Google’s AI-powered solutions could streamline workflows, improve document management and strengthen the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to modernise service delivery while maintaining a secure digital environment.
Minister Croal highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing digitisation programme, noting that technologies such as an integration layer would improve efficiency and enhance services for the public. Minister Benn pointed to the Ministry’s Single Window System as one example of how digital platforms are already simplifying processes and improving customer service.
The engagement aligns with the Government of Guyana’s broader vision of building a modern digital economy by integrating technology across the public sector, improving the delivery of government services, and expanding the use of innovation to drive national development. Initiatives like Citizen Connect and the Guyana Digital School are part and parcel of this vision. The government is also moving to strengthen cybersecurity, modernise public records management, and increase the use of data and emerging technologies to improve decision-making and service delivery.
The Google delegation included Territory Sales Manager for the Public Sector Mauro Miyake and Head of Google for Education for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean Alejandro Almazan Zimerman. They were accompanied by Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Guyana, Richard Leo, and representatives of REAS Group, Google’s regional cloud and workspace partner.
