The Government has launched the third phase of its National Cash Grant Initiative, allowing eligible Guyanese who do not have bank accounts, or prefer not to use them, to receive their cash grant by cheque.

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, announced the expansion on Wednesday, noting that the latest phase is designed to ensure that every eligible Guyanese can access the grant.

The initiative, announced by President Dr. Irfaan Ali and funded under Budget 2026, has already seen two successful phases. The first facilitated direct deposits into the bank accounts of public servants, central government employees and self-registered applicants, while the second targeted residents of remote communities and homebound individuals.

Dr. Singh reported that 470,420 cash grants have already been processed, injecting $47 billion into the disposable income of Guyanese.

Under the third phase, eligible persons can register at cashgrant.gov.gy and select cheque payment as their preferred method of receiving the grant. Applications will be verified before cheques are printed and distributed to collection points across the country.

Applicants will be able to track the status of their application through the online portal and will also be contacted by telephone when their cheque is ready for collection.

Although cheque payments are now available, Dr. Singh said the Government remains committed to promoting financial inclusion and will continue encouraging recipients to open bank accounts.

“Even if you have chosen… to receive your cash grant by way of a check, a bank account will prove useful to you in the future for a multiplicity of reasons,” he said.

He encouraged eligible Guyanese who previously did not register because they lacked a bank account or did not wish to provide banking information to take advantage of the new option.
