As Guyana prepares to observe World Environment Day on June 5, hundreds turned out for the Environmental Protection Agency’s annual Green Walk and Exhibition, promoting environmental awareness and protection. Prime Minister Mark Phillips used the occasion to stress the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.
Held under the theme, ‘Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future’, the event also promoted EPA’s anti-litter campaign,
‘Nah dutty de place, man’, a nationwide environmental initiative calling for personal responsibility, proper waste disposal and a clean Guyana.
PM Phillips, who participated in the activity, stressed that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility that spans generations.
“Environmental consciousness belongs to the school child walking beside a parent this morning, to the vendors along the seawall, to the pensioners who remember what the coastline looked like 40 years ago, and to the young person who will still be living on it 40 years from now,” he said.

The Prime Minister also warned that climate change is reshaping the relationship between people and the environment, underscoring the need for urgent action to protect future generations.
“Climate change is altering that relationship in ways that our grandparents did not anticipate and our grandchildren should not have to inherit it unaddressed,” he stressed.
World Environment Day will be observed on June 5, with activities aimed at raising awareness and encouraging action to address climate change and environmental conservation.
