Twenty-one women from Region 10 have successfully completed specialised training in renewable energy to the Guyana utility-scale solar photovoltaic program.
The five-week course held at the Linden Technical Institute equipped participants with practical hands-on skills for the growing solar energy sector.
Participants described the training engaging and impactful, with lessons ranging from system installation to calculating wire sizes and costing solar setups.
“I learned how to connect a system, a PV system, and that is great for me,” said Wynette Richards.
Kavasha Shipley told NCN, “Well, the training was interesting, it was engaging, it allowed me to learn about a set of new things like calculating, taking into consideration different wire sizes that are needed for certain components,”
“It was way easier than I thought, and the lecturers were great,” Shannia Richardson said.
Plans are already in place to involve the women in upcoming projects, including the Linden solar farm, giving them valuable field experience.
The GUYSOL programme, led by Guyana Power and Light Inc., forms part of Guyana’s push towards renewable energy and inclusive development, with a focus on building local capacity and increasing women’s participation in the energy sector.
