Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred last evening on the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara, involving a motor car and an electric bike.
Dead is Carlos Eliber, a 34-year-old Venezuelan national.
According to police reports, motor car PAN 5007, driven by a 25-year-old man of Blossom Scheme, Enmore, was proceeding west when Eliber allegedly rode his electric cycle across the road and into the vehicle’s path.
The driver told investigators he swerved south in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unable to prevent the impact.
As a result of the crash, Eliber was flung into the air before landing on the roadway with severe injuries.
Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene and he was later examined by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead.
Police also reported that a breathalyser test conducted on the driver registered 35 and 39 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
The driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.
