Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh says Guyana’s economic transformation is evident in the everyday lives of its citizens, particularly young professionals, and reflects the sound judgment of the Guyanese people.
Speaking in a recent interview, Dr. Singh emphasised his faith in the analytical capability and intelligence of the nation, noting that the People’s Progressive Party’s decisive 2025 re-election signals that citizens recognize and support the economic progress taking place.
“Every young professional has within their reach the ability to own their own home. That was not the case 20 years ago. It was certainly not the case. It would have been an outlandish and an unrealistic expectation 30 years ago. Today, it is the norm,” he said.
Dr. Singh also highlighted advances in personal transportation, a key indicator according to him of rising incomes.
“Today, more young Guyanese own their own means of transportation than at any other time in our country’s history. Again, when I started as a civil servant, you had to be a wealthy person or a senior civil servant to own your own motorcar. Today, owning your own motor car is not beyond the reach of the average Guyanese family. Most peoplewill not be able to buy a car with cash, but they’re earning enough income to be able to go into a bank, get a loan, service that loan with their income, and purchase a motor car,” the senior minister pointed out.
Education and skills development are also key pillars of the country’s economic progress.
The Finance Minister linked these developments to broader economic growth, stating that the combination of rising incomes, access to credit, homeownership, and improved education reflects a Guyana that is modernizing rapidly and creating opportunity in every sector.
